Dayna from Bite Me Bakery – Toronto’s new and very edgy bite-size cupcake shop, hired me last January to style her bake shop for their corporate photoshoot and video. Every little detail counts when designing a whimsical platform, hair and makeup included! You can view some images here
I was so impressed with Kathleen Parker and Melissa Noelle – the Lush Brush team, they tag-teamed Dayna at the very same time, Kathleen tackling makeup while Melissa worked on her hair. They did such a phenomenal job that I wanted to share their tips & tricks with you all.
Here they are!
The great news is that you can find most of the below items at Sephora!
- Josie Maran Argan Oil (moisturizer)
- Two Faced Primed & Poreless (primer)
- M.A.C Studio Sculpt (foundation) in NC25
- Smashbox High Definition Concealer in Medium
- Smashbox Photo Set Pressed Powder in Medium
- Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder
- M.A.C Mineralized Skinfinish in RedHead (highlighter)
Dayna had a lot of dry skin so Kathleen used a moisturizer that would absorb quickly. She used Argan Oil (which can also be used for your hair and nails) and applied it to Dayna’s dry areas. To avoid dry skin there are a few very basic things you can do; drink the recommended amount of water daily, exfoliate once a week (unless you have extremely oily skin) and moisturize!!
After lightly applying her foundation and concealer (because of the skins condition) Kathleen proceeded to apply the Smashbox Photo set finishing powder, which plays the part of an HD finishing powder.
EXTRA TIP – Apply any finishing/hd powder with a small fluffy blending brush instead of your normal big pressed powder brushes. You never want to apply to much and always want to blend blend blend. Try snapping a picture (with flash!) of yourself before leaving the house, HD finishing powders can leave a white powder residue on areas it was applied that only shows in flash photography….so be warned!
- Urban Decay Primer Potion (original)
- Jordan/Crown Shimmer Pigment in 712 (shimmery purple pigment shadow)
- M.A.C eye shadow fig. 1
- Essence Black Liquid Eye Liner
- Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Pencil in black
- QUO false eyelashes in ‘Glamour’
For Dayna’s eyes Kathleen wanted to create something super fun, feminine and sexy! So to compliment her skin, hair and eyes she went for a bright shimmery purple over the entire lid. To create some definition and contouring she added a tiny bit M.A.C eye shadow to the crease and outer corner of her eyes, blending until the two colours became one.
To add some drama and “sexiness” she drew a harsh black winged line on her top lid and some black liner to her water line. To amp up the drama she used some glamour lashes, but instead of applying the entire strip of lashes, she cut the lashes about 3/4 and applied them, using the remaining 1/4 and applying them to the outer corner lashes. This helped create the sexy cat eye effect, topping her lashes off with a few coats of mascara.
- M.A.C Amplified Lipstick in Chatterbox
After all of Dayna’s makeup was applied and settled, Kathleen used Urban Decay’s All Nighter setting spray. This setting spray is one of her favourite products as it’s great for all skin types and actually works!
Stay tuned for a description on how Melissa Noelle achieved Dayna’s bouncy hairstyle!
